With the Linux Kernel 2.2, the SAP system must simultaneously display the
user contexts of all active users in the address space of the work
processes.This corresponds to the classic UNIX implementation of the
Extended Memory (EM).
The total of all user contexts currently active is thus limited by the
address space limitations of the Intel 32-bit platform.As a result,
approximately 1.2 GB (maximum) is specifically available for all user
contexts together.
Based on the TMP file system in the Linux Kernel 2.4, the SAP work process
can now individually display each user context just required in the address
space.This means that an individual user context is limited to approximately
1.2 GB.However, the total of the user contexts can be significantly higher
than this (in theory, only limited by RAM + swap).This is exactly the same
as memory management under Windows NT.
