Standalone vs. inetd-started servers
Servers started by the inetd super-server have the advantage of
reading
their configuration files each time a client attempts to access
their
information (since inetd restarts them whenever they are needed).
This
allows changes in configuration files to take effect immediately.
Standalone servers, on the other hand, require explicit restarting
for
configuration changes to take effect. Furthermore, a crashed
standalone
server will probably stay unnoticed and the service will become
unavailable, whereas, in the inetd case fresh copies will be spawned
on demand.
