 Ты совершенно прав, этот кусок FAQ писан во время 3.x, он подходит только
 для 3.x, для четверки он устарел. Между прочим, в FAQ из 4.4-STABLE
 этот пункт имеет номер 3.28, но все равно не переписан.
 Hапиши в stable@ (и можешь еще в doc@), пусть правят.
 
 И убедись, что твой модем - не winmodem, спроси у продавца.
 Иначе - продавай.
