PerlNET
In our Perl for .NET Research, we found that the initial approach of
directly compiling to the .NET runtime had some limitations. These issues
will be addressed in a fundamental manner as development on the .NET
Framework and on Perl 6 progresses.
In the meantime, ActiveState will provide an alternate solution to make
existing Perl code available from within the .NET Framework. Our PerlNET
technology will allow .NET Framework code to access Perl code running
outside .NET using the traditional Perl interpreter.
In particular, PerlNET provides the following advantages over the Research
code:
a.. Perl code will run at the same speed within .NET as it does outside.
b.. All extension modules, including the ones using XS code, are
supported.
c.. Complete compatibility with the standard Perl language, including the
string form of eval and runtime use of require.
A first version of PerlNET is expected to become available shortly
