2.4) Can I write to CDR or CDRW discs with this driver?
This UDF driver has support for writing to UDF filesystems, but only to
non-CDROMs, such as hard dri ve partitions or loop-back filesystems.
As of this writing, the Linux kernel doesn't support writing to writable
CDROMs of any kind - it ass umes a CDROM is read only at a low level, which
isn't easy to work around. Work is under way to fix this. In the meantime,
when you mount a writable CDROM (either CDR or CDRW), you will get a notice
s aying "block device is write-protected, mounting read-only", even if you
specify the "-o rw" option.
For "Alpha" support for writing to CDRW's only (2.3 only), ftp to:
ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/axboe/packet/
cdrwtool (used to blank/format media) and pktcdvd (needed for mapping the packet
write driver to the cdrom device) are included in udf-latest/tools/
NOTE: Neither the pktcdvd driver nor the current UDF version support recovering
from a failed packet write, so do not use this to write mission critical data
to CDRW's.
