By Mario Rodrigues: Wednesday 19 November 2003, 09:56 CALIFORNIA based PathScale, which develops technologies that increases the performance and efficiency of Linux clusters, has announced AMD64 compiler support. The company claims that its 64-bit version for AMD Opteron-based Linux servers are the highest performing by a margin of up to 40%. If this performance is as good as it sounds, could it signal Itanium's death knell and Yamhill's formal entry into the world? AMD64 technology is currently on a roll in the HPC community. And now with Sun, the second major OEM to follow IBM and take AMD64 onboard, those companies which espouse an Itanium only approach for the transition to 64-bit computing must now be re-considering their strategy. If not, hope is not a plan for success. The PathScale compiler suite is based on technology originally developed by SGI. The company says that the optimization infrastructure of its compiler technology is generally considered to be one of the most advanced in the industry. Dr. Fred Chow, recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on compiler technology and formerly chief scientist for compilers at SGI, leads the PathScale compiler development team. PathScale claims that in both floating point and integer intensive benchmarks, its compilers substantially out-performed its competing counterparts. It also says that these compilers deliver balanced performance as measured by SPEC benchmarks and real application code. "Based on more than 60 interviews with users of high-performance computing systems within large organizations, there is a clear market need for a balanced, 64-bit, fully-supported compiler for the AMD Opteron processor," said Len Rosenthal, VP of marketing at PathScale. "We have witnessed very strong HPC end-user interest in Opteron processor-based servers. The added performance of the PathScale Compiler Suite is expected to increase this interest and make the AMD Opteron the preferred processor choice for Linux clusters, altering the balance of power in the competition between AMD and Intel in the high-performance 64-bit market." PathScale's Compiler Suite includes C, C++, and Fortran 9X compilers which it claims delivers: Industry-leading optimizations Complete support for 64-bit and 32-bit compilation Native code generation for the AMD64 ABI Compatibility with GNU/GCC tool chain and debuggers Binary and source code compatibility PathScale says its compilers will be available in the first quarter of 2004. ч Best regards, Igor ICQ# 4437384 (rsr@hotpop.com) -- XMMS is in /*Silence*/ Hаизусть команду make Знают Шапка и Mandrake --- tin/1.4.6-20020816 ("Aerials") (UNIX) (Linux/2.4.19 (i686)) * Origin: [KPI FPM] [Между дрочим, где-то всралась очепятк (2:463/984@fidonet) Вернуться к списку тем, сортированных по: возрастание даты уменьшение даты тема автор
